If so, this relaxed and friendly full-day workshop is designed for you.
Overlockers can feel confusing at first with all the threads, dials and tensions, but once you understand the basics they can completely transform your garment sewing. In this workshop we’ll remove the fear and help you feel confident using an overlocker while creating your very own handmade jersey T-shirt along the way.
During the morning session we’ll focus on understanding the machine itself — threading, tensions, troubleshooting and practising stitches on sample fabrics. Once everyone is feeling comfortable, we’ll move on to sewing a simple jersey T-shirt in the afternoon using the new skills you’ve learned.
This class is perfect for sewists who already use a regular sewing machine and would love to start making professional-looking knit garments with confidence.

This course is best suited to students who already feel comfortable using a regular sewing machine, even if they are still fairly new to garment sewing.

- How to thread your machine correctly
- Tension basics explained simply
- Sewing stretch fabrics successfully
- Starting and finishing seams neatly
- Sewing curves and corners
- Troubleshooting common overlocker problems
- Constructing a simple jersey T-shirt

Your course takes place in The Makers Studio, our dedicated creative space.

- Tuition throughout the day
- Printed overlocker guide sheets
- Practice fabrics for samples
- Tea, coffee & biscuits
- Use of studio tools and equipment
What supplies you need
If bringing your own overlocker:
- Your machine
- Machine manual if possible
- Matching thread cones
You’ll also need:
- Jersey fabric for your T-shirt, we suggest 1.5mtrs cotton jersey.
- Basic sewing kit
A packed lunch

To make sure everyone receives plenty of individual help and troubleshooting support, this workshop is limited to just 4 students.
