Join us in The Makers Studio for a relaxed two-hour workshop where you’ll learn how to make your very own 30cm drum lampshade from start to finish.
We’ll guide you through the whole process step by step, showing you how to prepare your fabric, apply it smoothly to the lampshade panel and assemble everything to create a beautifully neat, professional-looking shade.
This is a lovely workshop if you fancy trying something a little different, and no previous lampshade-making experience is needed. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a finished 30cm drum lampshade, ready to add a lovely handmade touch to your home.

Your 30cm lampshade-making kit is included in the workshop price, so all the specialist components you need will be ready and waiting for you.
Fabric is not included, allowing you to choose something that perfectly suits your own home and style.

Choosing Your Fabric
Choosing Your Fabric
You’ll need to bring a piece of fabric measuring at least 30cm x 1 metre for your lampshade.
For the best results, choose a light to medium-weight woven fabric that is smooth, stable and not too bulky. Cotton poplin, quilting cotton, cotton lawn, linen blends and lightweight furnishing fabrics can all work beautifully.
Prints are a great choice too — just bear in mind that very large motifs, stripes or directional designs may need a little extra thought when positioning your fabric on the shade.
Fabrics to avoid
We recommend avoiding:
- Stretch or jersey fabrics
- Very thick upholstery fabrics
- Bulky or heavily textured fabrics
- Loose or open-weave fabrics
- Very sheer fabrics
- Sequins, beads or heavily embellished fabrics
- Fabrics that fray excessively or are difficult to handle
