Introduction to Machine Embroidery

Over 4 weekly Thursday evening sessions you'll learn basic machine embroidery and applique techniques and then use your new skills to make a useful zipped pouch and a cushion cover which will make delightful handmade gifts (or keep them for yourself!)

Week 1 - learning the techniques.

• Using your machine 'freehand'

• Using bondaweb to make appliqué

• Designing, Cutting and Placing

Week 2 - designing and sewing your cushion cover

Week 3 - designing and sewing your pouch front

Week 4 - completing your projects

You will need to have fabric for your pouch (and lining) and cushion cover

Pouch - if you're using a width of fabric you'll need 30cm of outer and lining fabric. Or you could use 2 fat quarters, one in main fabric and one in lining. The fabrics should be lightweight and the outer should be plain - but you can go mad with your lining! You will need a 20cm zip and matching thread. Bonded interlining or interfacing is included in the course.

Cushion - lightweight wool or cotton/linens. 50cm of 150cm wide fabric or two fat quarters. A large Button or 1m ribbon.

You can use your own scrap stash and threads for the embroidery and appliqué but there will be a large selection of scraps and threads available to use too.

You need to be able to thread and use a sewing machine (use one of ours or bring your own) to complete the course.

Tea and coffee etc are provided each evening.
