About the event

Whether your new to dressmaking, not done it for a while or already confident but would like to learn new skills, this is a great course for bringing out the best in your dressmaking. If you've got unfinished projects lurking in a cupboard, why not bring them along to get a fresh burst of energy and complete them.

Over the six sessions we will cover:

  • Choosing a pattern and fabric
  • Measuring yourself to ensure a good fit and some basic pattern adjustments
  • Reading and understanding patterns and cutting out
  • How to insert a zip
  • Types of seams and neatening
  • Sleeves, cuffs, buttons and buttonholes, collars

Each week will have elements of learning techniques and of completing your own garment.

Beginners or improvers welcome in a supportive and inclusive environment

What to bring:

Sewing machine (or use one of ours)

Sewing kit (sharp scissors, pins, needles, tape measure, pencil and notebook)

In the first week we will discuss patterns and fabrics.  We’ll begin making up your project in week 2 so you don’t need to have chosen your pattern and fabric to begin the course.

What's included:

Sewing machines (if needed), overlockers, cutting tables, irons, lots of equipment to borrow,

Tea, coffee and cold drinks

Advice, experience and a warm welcome in a relaxed environment

Unpicking support!

There are a maximum of 6 people on the course so you'll get plenty of support. You must be able to use a sewing machine independently before starting the course. There are beginners classes available at the studio or contact me for one-to-one tuition.
